Our connection to Mevagissey

We have a close connection to Mevagissey as family grew up in the village and ran the old post office. We have heard stories about its vibrant community for as long as we can remember. From wandering the narrow harbour streets to watching the fishing boats return with the tide, it is a place that has always felt significant to us.

Whether exploring the coastal paths, pausing to take in the views across the twin harbours or enjoying the quiet of a morning by the water, our moments here have shaped many of our family memories.

Over the years that connection has grown through a range of local projects which have given us a deeper understanding of Mevagissey’s fishing heritage and the distinctive character woven through the village and coastline. We have designed homes inspired by the ever changing seascapes, adapted spaces to suit modern family life and explored new ways to create architecture that feels closely connected to this sensitive setting while maximising views towards the Cornish coastline.
We have worked with clients to reimagine family homes across Mevagissey, from full house renovations to loft conversions that create contemporary coastal homes, always drawing inspiration from the village’s evolving character. Each project has strengthened our appreciation for the people who live and work here as well as the unique charm that makes Mevagissey so distinctive.

These days, when we get the chance, our visits often include walks along the cliff paths, time around the harbour or simply wandering the village’s narrow lanes with fresh eyes while reflecting on our family history and connection to the place. Mevagissey continues to inspire our work, shaping our approach to thoughtful design with a genuine sense of place.

We are bringing modern, sustainable design to cornwall’s coastline

Sustainability isn’t an add-on for us, it’s woven into every stage of the design process.

From the moment we explore your brief, we look for ways to reduce energy use, improve long-term performance and make the most of natural light, ventilation and orientation.

We consider low-impact materials, smart insulation strategies and future-proof heating solutions, balancing environmental responsibility with comfort and practicality.

The result is a space that not only feels better to live in, but one that stands the test of time with a lighter footprint on the Cornish landscape.

We are passionate about our part of beautiful projects

We are delighted to have chosen Marraum Architects to redesign the downstairs of our house. Adam was well prepared at our first meeting, listened to our initial ideas and gave us other options to consider. The whole process, from initial designs to submitting plans and finding contractors, was explained. Jonathan took over the design process, introduced our project to contractors and we have now completed our build. We are delighted with how the house flows, giving us the living space we had hoped for and a lovely garden without losing any outdoor space.

Adam and his team did a great job on designing the place. It was a fluid and enjoyable process. They really listened to what I was after but added ideas and designs beyond what I thought was possible. Blending traditional and contemporary styles to create something very unique.

Nice and talented bunch.”

We’ve worked with Marraum on a house renovation project in Falmouth and they’ve been fantastic throughout. Adam gave great advice from the first call and carried out a thorough house survey (in horrendous rain!), while Jonathan really took the time to get to know us and present some inspiring design options. Meg has also been brilliant in keeping everything organised. We’ve now secured planning permission and couldn’t be happier with the process. Highly recommend!.”

How much does it cost to hire an architect in Cornwall?

Costs vary depending on your project’s size and complexity, but we offer clear, transparent pricing from the outset. After an initial conversation and understanding your brief, we’ll provide a detailed, fixed-fee proposal so you know exactly what to expect.

Do you work with builders we already have in mind?

Yes, we’re happy to collaborate with your chosen builder. We can also recommend trusted contractors we’ve worked with before, ensuring your project runs smoothly from design to build.

Can you help us visualise the design before we commit?

Absolutely. We specialise in using immersive 3D modelling to let you explore your space before any construction begins. It’s one of the best ways to gain confidence and clarity early on.

Do you handle building regulations as well as planning?

Yes. We take care of both planning applications and the technical drawings required for building regulations approval, so everything is coordinated and consistent.

How long does an architectural project usually take?

Timelines depend on the scope of the work, a small extension might take a ten months to get on site, while a full new build could take over a year We’ll outline each stage clearly so you always know what’s happening next.

Do you take on small projects?

Yes. From compact extensions to full home reconfigurations, we work across projects of all sizes as long as we can deliver meaningful design value.

Can you design sustainably even if our home is older or traditional?

Definitely. Sustainable upgrades can be integrated into almost any home, including traditional Cornish properties. We’ll advise on the most effective improvements without compromising character.
